Millworker

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

A millworker will work mostly indoors performing general mill trades, such as operating diamond saws and overhead cranes and completing general labor tasks. Motivated individuals will have the opportunity to apprentice in planer and/or stonecutting trades. To be eligible, a candidate must pass a preemployment drug screen.

  • Shoveling scrap material into drop boxes
  • Keeping scrap off the floors around stonecutters and planer operators
  • Filling in for sawyers and hooks when they are absent or on vacation
  • Hooking and unhooking drop boxes from cranes

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities:
    • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations regarding cranes, daily required inspections and how to perform the inspections
    • Skill in hooking/handling all forms of Indiana limestone in a safe, efficient manner
    • Ability to communicate and advise on the work of others
    • Ability to understand and communicate instructions
    • Ability to communicate and coordinate with supervisors, peers and subordinates
    • Ability to walk over rough and uneven terrain
